Distribution |
Naitve to Japan. Distributed throughout Honsyu, Shikoku, and Kyushu. They live in evergreen and deciduous broad-leaved trees. |
Commentary |
They eat fruit, seeds, leaves, buds, insects, etc. found in trees and on the ground. They live in nomadic groups consisting of males, females, and infants ranging from several dozen to 1100 individuals. A troop ca be seen in Tama Forest Science Garden since 2016. To ensure that monkeys interact well with people, visitors are advised to avoid feeding them and to make sure to bring their trash out with them. |
