A perennial plant that grows in wetlands in the mountains. It reaches a height of 1 to 1.5 meters. The stem is thick and has three ridges. It produces large corymbs from the tip and upper leaf axils. When ripe, the scales turn reddish-brown. The Japanese name derives from the oily smell of the inflorescence. |
