A perennial plant that grows about 1 m high in fields and mountains. The base of the linear leaf has long hairs. The inflorescence is a 20-30 cm panicle with a slightly drooping tip, a thread-like stem, and small ears from the middle of the stem to the tip. The Japanese name derives from the oil-like mucus exuded by the stem and inflorescence stalk. |
