Commentary |
A perennial plant that is often found in forests with moderate light and at forest edges. It produces ears of flowers in the summer, the number of which decreases in the fall; but even in early winter it may still have a few flowers. The long ears produce numerous tiers of flowers with a ring of purple tubular flowers about 1 cm long. Even after the flowers are finished, the calyx remains, and fruit forms in the calyx tube. |
