Commentary |
A perennial plant found in forests. Grows in large numbers in the arboretum. In the winter, there are radical leaves, and when the stems begin to grow the rhizome leaves die off leaving only the stem leaves. The flowerhead blooms in the fall and is long and slender with few flowers. The head peduncle is so short that it appears to emerge directly from the stem. The fruit is inconspicuous, surrounded by dead flowers. |
