Commentary |
A perennial forest plant. The Japanese name comes from the wide, wavy-edged leaves resembling bamboo leaves. The leaves grow out close to horizontally, and stolons spread in all directions. The flowers grow on the main axis of the flower stalk and extend a short branch, on which forms a spikelet. The flowers are anemophilous and inconspicuous, but when they bear fruit, they release mucus from an awn and adhere to whatever passes by. |
