---|---|
Scientific name |
Ophiopogon japonicus (Thunb.) Ker Gawl. |
Best season |
July, August |
Commentary |
It propagates by way of stolons and grows in clusters. Those that do not put out stolons and have long leaves are called Nagabaja-no-Hige (Ophiopogon japonicus var. umbrosus). The pericarp (carpel) ruptures and is shed when the flower is finished, exposing the seeds. The seed coat turns blue and develops a thin pulp, for a fruit-like appearance. |
