Commentary |
Dioecious. It grows and spreads by growing rhizomes. The flowers start to bloom in early spring, with dense flowerheads on a flower stalk with numerous bracts. The flowers are all tubular. The flowerhead is female but includes a few male flowers that do not produce pollen. The female inflorescence grows high after flowering and bears numerous long achenes with pappi. |
