A deciduous tree that grows on hills and mountains. It reaches about 30 meters high. Large leaves 20-40 cm long grow in clusters at the ends of branches. Large yellow-white, fragrant flowers appear at the ends of the branches following leaf development. There are places in the Science Garden where you can see the flowers up close. The wood is used for geta, or Japanese wooden clogs, and woodblocks, and the leaves are used in cooking. |
