Commentary |
A perennial plant in deciduous forests. In warmer years, it may put out leaves in the winter. Normally, the plant produces leaves in early spring, and after flowering and fruiting, all the above-ground parts of the plant die by early summer, leaving only the underground parts. The flowers are pink, grow out sideways, and have a long spur behind them, in which nectar is produced. The seeds have an elaiosome and are carried by ants. |
