Commentary |
An evergreen creeping tree that grows at forest edges in fields and mountains. Flowers are 1.5 cm in diameter, yellowish-white and dioecious or monoecious. After flowering, the flower receptacle swells, producing an aggregate fruit of round, fleshy drupes, which ripens red. The Japanese common name, Binan-kazura, derives from the mucus from the bark being used to make a hair conditioning lotion. |
