Commentary |
An annual plant that grows in clusters in slightly damp places. The stem has a downward-pointing spike that creeps along the ground. The flowers look like pink kompeito, a Japanese sugar candy, gathering in clusters of a dozen or more at the ends of branches. The leaves are oval hastate in shape with a base that swells out like an ear. The common name Ushi-no-hitai (bull's forehead) comes from the leaves resembling the face of a bull. |
