Commentary |
The white flowerhead of this plant has numerous flowers, but only the peripheral female flowers bear fruit, and the central hermaphroditic flower acts as a functional male. The fruit sticky. This plant is named in Japanese after its large leaves, which resemble butterbur leaves, but it is not actually relates to the butterbur. |
