Commentary |
A perennial creeping plant commonly found in fields and mountains. Dioecious. It is similar to the Yama-no-imo(Dioscorea japonica) Japanese mountain yam, but the subterranean yams of this plant are too small and bitter to eat. In summer, the male inflorescence stands upward and the female inflorescence hangs downward and bears numerous small flowers. |
