Commentary |
A deciduous tree that grows along riverbanks and in wildemess areas. The leaves are evenly bipinnate. The pale red flowers bloom in clusters at the ends of branches. The petals are funnel-shaped, with many small, long, pale red stamens. The legume remains after defoliation. The Japanese name comes from the way it closes its leaves at night (nyctinastic movement). |
