The leaves form a basal rosette, with small white flowers that grow from the center of the flower stalk in the spring. The fruit is triangular, containing tiny seeds. The various common names for the plant in Japanese relate to the Japanese stringed musical instrument, the shamisen, because the triangular flower resemble the shamisen plectrum. |
