A biennial plant found in sunny areas. In winter, brown streaked rosettes can be seen along the veins of the leaves. When damaged, it releases white sap. It is the latest bloomer in the Science Garden. The flowerhead consists of a dozen or so yellow lingual flowers, which turn downward when the flower is finished. When it bears fruit, it turns upward again and the black seeds with white pappi are borne on the wind. |
